| When a child is in need of mental health intervention, problems may manifest themselves
in any of three settings: home, school and/or community. Although families are often
able to correct problems within the home, difficulties at school will often lead
them to seek outside treatment. Child Guidance Resource Centers (CGRC) is actively
aware of the effects of diminished school functioning upon a child's self-esteem
and overall coping skills. With this in mind, CGRC offers a variety of educational
services for children that will enable them to ultimately flourish within the least
restrictive educational setting possible. |

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION SERVICES (EES)
includes a private special education school licensed by the Pennsylvania Department
of Education and operated by CGRC. This school serves children enrolled in Kindergarten
through Grade 5 who are in need of full-time support outside of the services that
are available to them within their own school district. The school operates Monday
through Friday with student hours from 9am to 3pm from September through June. The
student's day includes academics delivered by a certified special education teacher,
utilizing a state-approved curriculum. Adjunctive counseling and related therapy
services are provided as prescribed in the child's Individualized Educational Plan
(IEP). The goal of these classes is to provide each student with the skills needed
to fully participate in his or her home school district.
EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR PROGRAM (ESY)
is for children between the ages of 6 through 12 who, in the absence of their typical
educational environment, would experience behavioral, social and / or educational
regression during the summer months. The educational curriculum provided on a daily
basis focuses on appropriate communication and social interactions within a classroom
setting. This is supported through the use of language arts and math subject matter.
The remainder of the program promotes similar skills through the use of structured
recreational activities.
SCHOOL BASED CONTRACTED SERVICES (SBCS)
provides school districts with a bridge between education and behavioral health services
for children. School districts throughout Delaware, Chester and Montgomery counties
contract for services within their individualized educational settings. Services
provided through this program include psychiatric consultation, individual /group
counseling, crisis management, mental health and drug and alcohol assessments, functional
behavioral assessments, development of classroom and individual student behavior
plans, staffing for one-on-one situations, and staff training. |
