Extended School Year (ESY) refers to services provided beyond the school year that are designed to meet specific objectives included in a student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP). ESY services are designed to ensure the student maintains skills and/or behaviors learned during the school year. They are not designed to assist in acquiring new skills or behaviors.

The IEP team determines eligibility for ESY services.

Child Guidance Resource Centers provides a structured ESY program for children between the ages of 6 and 12 years with emotional support or autistic support needs. ESY is committed to providing the most effective service to children who may experience behavior and educational regression during the non-academic weeks. Children referred to this program are deemed eligible by the school district making the referral based on their emotional support or autistic support needs status.

Parents should request an IEP meeting to decide whether their child is eligible for ESY. The IEP team makes the decision whether or not ESY services are appropriate. If ESY services are going to be provided to the student, the services must be written into the IEP. If the school district refuses to give your child ESY services, the denial of services must be provided to you in writing.
