Child Guidance Resource Centers provides a- 9-week Summer Therapeutic Activities
Program.- The STAP program is a highly structured summer- day treatment service for
children between the- ages of 6 and 12 years with emotional support or- autistic
support needs.

a) To implement an adventure-based counseling- concept which is an experiential
learning model- that utilizes a group model and a series of structured- activities
to promote behavior changes and- improve self-esteem. This model encourages- children
to develop effective and positive communication- skills as well as conflict resolution
skills.- Additionally, trust and confidence in self and- others is developed.
There are four basic concepts that define Adventure-Based Counseling:

b) To encourage children to improve cooperative- social interaction in a recreational
setting.
c) To support the family in its role as the child's- primary caregiver by
coordinating a behavioral- modification plan that is individual to the child.
d) To communicate between home and camp- through the use of a daily behavioral
goal sheet.

SUMMER THERAPEUTIC ACTIVITIES SERVICES, (CAMP) AGES 6-12
WHAT: The Summer Therapeutic Activities Services are based on Adventure-Based
Counseling/Experiential methods which utilize a group model and a series of structured
activities to promote behavior change and improvement of self-esteem. Some topics
that are addressed in the camp setting include communication, cooperation, problem-solving,
multi-cultural/tolerance, and trust.
WHO: Children between the ages of 6- 12 years who are diagnosed with social/emotional
problems. Each child referred must currently be receiving some form of mental health
service in order to be appropriate for STAP.
WHEN: Session I:

SUMMER THERAPEUTIC ACTITIVIES PROGRAM AUTISTIC SUPPORT GROUP
WHAT: The goal is to promote the development of socialization skills that
will allow the child to Integrate into community activities once they have completed
the program. The program will work to increase the child's ability to develop and
maintain peer relationships through activities, which promote communication, cooperation,
emotional expression, appreciation for diversity, and non-violent conflict resolution.
The program focuses on assisting children with social skills deficits related to
diagnoses of Autism or PDD.
WHO: Children between the ages of six and twelve with a DSM-IV diagnosis of
Autism or PDD. A referral and assessment process must be completed to determine the
appropriateness of the child for the program.
3 to 1 Child to Staff ratio, focuses on communication skills and basic social skills,

EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR SERVICES, AGES 6-12
WHAT: EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR PROGRAM (ESY) is a community-based and educationally
focused treatment service to children facilitated through Child Guidance Resource
Center(CGRC). ESY is committed to providing the highest quality, most effective service
to children who may experience a behavior and educational regression during the non-academic
weeks. Programming is designed for those with Emotional Support or Autistic Support
needs. Placement in our Delaware County ESY program is initiated by the referring
school district. The IEP process determines the amount of programming needed for
each individual student. The Extended School Year students will be academically monitored
by the special educator. Overall progress will be documented daily through a goal
sheet and weekly through a progress report form. Parents will receive the daily goal
sheets and weekly progress report forms. Progress report forms will be sent to the
referring school district at the end of the ESY program.
WHO: The ESY program is a therapeutic, educational, highly structured summer
day treatment service for children between the ages of 6 and 12 years old with a
clearly documented educational necessity. Children referred to this program are deemed
eligible by the school district making the referral based on their emotional support
or autistic support need status.
WHEN: The Extended School Program operates from June through August, annually
from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
