Good kids sometimes get off track. They skip a few classes, then they start cutting school altogether. Their classroom becomes the street. Their diploma, a jail sentence.

The Truancy and Delinquency Prevention Partnership identifies at-risk children and gets them back in school, learning the life skills they need to stay out of trouble.

When a student is found to be truant, his or her name is sent to the Truancy and Delinquency Prevention Partnership. Once in the program, children and their families meet with trained professionals to find out why the student is not attending school.
Each situation is unique so each solution (treatment program) is specially designed by a case manager or clinical team to meet the specific needs of the student or family involved. Many different types of services may be offered, including: Family Counseling, Family Support Services, Individual Therapy, and Behavior Management Programs.

Frequently families work together to correct the problem of truancy without outside help. Others use the skills, knowledge and services of the Truancy and Delinquency Prevention Partnership to return the students to school.

If a student corrects his or her behavior and follows the school attendance policy, no further action is necessary. However, if a student continues to miss school unexcused, a truancy hearing will be scheduled and a Court Justice will decide what further action is to be taken. It is always preferable to correct the problem before this point.

The program is provided at no cost to you. It is a cooperative program involving the Delaware County Courts, District Justices, Juvenile Probation, the County of Delaware Department of Human Services, Delaware County Children & Youth, The Office of the District Attorney, Office of Behavioral Health, the Delaware County Intermediate Units and Child Guidance Resource Centers.

Children from grades 1-12 are eligible for our service. Truancy, chronic tardiness and behavioral problems are reasons for referral to our program.

Hours of service are Monday - Thursday 8 am - 8 pm
Friday 8 am - 5 pm.

Services are provided in family homes, schools and within the community
