Every 'Body' Moves: Dance/Movement Strategies to Reduce Emotional Distress

Course Objectives

Bring the body into the therapeutic space. Learn simple, somatic strategies rooted in Dance/Movement Therapy principles—no DMT credential required. For use with diverse populations to support regulation, grounding, and connection.

  • Describe the evidence-based use and limitations of DMT to treat depression, anxiety, traumatic stress, and emotional dysregulation.

  • Apply 4-6 simple, trauma-informed movement and regulation techniques for different populations.

  • Demonstrate trauma-informed practice: screening for risk, informed consent, pacing, and steps to re-orient clients if distress occurs.

  • Explain ethical and scope-of-practice boundaries: when to incorporate movement, and when to consult/refer to credentialed DMTs.
