Revisit the Power of “United for Safety”

On Saturday, June 7, 2025, Child Guidance Resource Centers’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council, in partnership with the Government Relations Committee, proudly hosted the 3rd Annual “United for Safety” Gun Violence Prevention Event.

This impactful gathering brought together community leaders, elected officials, advocates, and residents—united by a shared commitment to building safer, healthier neighborhoods. As gun violence continues to escalate across the country—through school shootings, domestic violence, and street-level gun crime—events like these serve as a vital response to a growing public health crisis.

Our panel discussions focused on the often-overlooked mental and behavioral health toll gun violence takes on children and families. Panelists explored meaningful strategies to reduce firearm access, advocate for policy reform, and secure long-term investment in violence prevention.

One especially powerful moment came from panelist Malcolm J. Yates, who courageously shared his personal story as a gun violence survivor. His testimony highlighted the lifelong impact these tragedies leave on individuals and communities alike.

The event’s Resource Fair offered hands-on tools and support, featuring contributions from organizations like CeaseFirePA, Souls Shot Portrait Project, and Kingsessing Heals. Pennsylvania State Representative Regina Young reminded attendees of the urgent need for collective action—emphasizing that lasting change depends on all of us.
