Conflict Transformation: Clinical Strategies for Effective Faith Leadership

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Faith-based leaders are confronted with conflict daily—from minor disagreements to deep-seated power struggles. Navigating these challenges calls for self-awareness, insight into human behavior, and spiritual resilience.

This course offers practical, evidence-based strategies from the behavioral health field to help leaders from diverse traditions build trust, reduce tension, and strengthen their communities during times of conflict.

Using the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI), participants will explore their conflict styles and learn to adapt their responses to various situations. Through interactive

learning, they will gain tools to stay spiritually grounded and to use differences as a vehicle for congregational and personal growth.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Identify conflict management styles through the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument and understand one’s strengths and limitations.

  • Utilize clinical insights to apply conflict resolution strategies to specific congregational challenges.

  • Learn strategies to remain emotionally and spiritually centered during conflict

  • Build faith communities that foster transparency, trust and connection during times of tension.

This course is intended for Faith-Based Leaders from All Traditions: Clergy, Spiritual Directors, Administrators, Students of Divinity, Rabbinical and Madrasa Schools, and Behavioral Health Professionals who support the behavioral and spiritual well-being of individuals, families, clergy and congregations

Josh Batula, MA, LPC

Josh Butala is a Counselor & Special Projects Coordinator at Buxmont Counseling Center, Souderton, PA. He works with adolescents, young adults, adults, families, and couples to treat anxiety, relationship challenges, phase-of-life transitions, building resiliency, and value-based living. Josh is committed to supporting the behavioral and spiritual well-being of clients and congregations. His integrative approach using techniques like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. Josh previously worked as a Student Assistance Program (SAP) Counselor in the North Penn and Souderton School Districts. jbutala@buxmontcounseling.com

CREDITS

Eligible participants will receive 2 APA, NBCC, PA SW/LPC/MFT and/or ACT 48 Credits upon successful completion of course requirements.

 Child Guidance Resource Centers (CGRC) is approved by the American Psychological Association, National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc., Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education (ACT 48) to award continuing education credits to eligible participants.
