Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention Programs (ATOD)

At Child Guidance Resource Centers (CGRC), we are committed to empowering youth, families, and communities with the knowledge and tools to make healthy, informed decisions. Our ATOD Program focuses on education, early intervention, and community engagement to reduce the risks associated with substance use. We operate our prevention programs in two PA counties, Delaware and Montgomery.

Delaware County ATOD Prevention Program

In Delaware County, our prevention program includes two programs, Strengthening Families and Project Toward No Drug Abuse, and community outreach and education including the annual One Stride at a Time 5k and additional awareness efforts throughout the year.

Strengthening Families (Ages 6-11 & 10-14)

The Strengthening Families Program is a 14-session, evidence-based parenting skills, children’s social skills, and family life skills training program specifically designed for families. Both parents and children participate in this effective program that improves family relationships, reduces problem behaviors, delinquency and alcohol and drug abuse in children and improve social skills and school performance.

Project Toward No Drug Abuse (Ages 14-19)

Project Toward No Drug Abuse is an effective, interactive substance abuse prevention program that is based on more than two decades of successful research at the University of Southern California. Project Toward No Drug Abuse focuses on three factors that predict tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use, violence-related behaviors and other problem behaviors among youth. The program is created for ages 14-19 and includes 12 sessions, with a minimum of 2 per week.

One Stride at a Time 5k

We hold our annual 5k each October! Join us as we run to stomp out drug and alcohol abuse. The day is a family-and-dog-friendly event where we share healthy resources and run/walk towards a healthier future.

Montgomery County ATOD Prevention Program

In Montgomery County, our prevention work is a combination of evidence-based programming, caregiver education, school collaboration, and outreach. Through communication across platforms, we work to prevent drug and alcohol misuse before it happens.

We have two choices for our clients to choose from Guiding Good Choices and Strengthening Families. We also regularly participate community outreach and education both in-person and on social media through awareness efforts throughout the year.

Strengthening Families (For ages 10-14)

The Strengthening Families Program is a 7-session evidence-based parenting skills, children’s social skills, and family life skills training program specifically designed for families with children ages 10-14 years. Both parents and children participate in this effective program that improves family relationships, reduces problem behaviors, delinquency and alcohol and drug abuse in children and improve social skills and school performance.

Guiding Good Choices (Ages 9-14)

GGC is an evidence based 5-session virtual program for parents with children ages 9-14. The program is a multimedia family-competency training program specifically designed to strengthen parents' family management skills, parent-child bonding, and children's peer-resistance skills. Most sessions are parent-focused, though children attend one session, focused on peer pressure.
